On February 21, 2026, a symposium dedicated to modern fruit production was held at the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Novi Sad. The event was organized by the Faculty of Agriculture, the Department of Fruit Growing, Viticulture, Horticulture and Landscape Architecture, and the Society of Fruit Growers of Vojvodina.
The symposium was opened by the President of the Society of Fruit Growers of Vojvodina, MSc Stefan Gligorić, who emphasized the important role of the association in advancing fruit production and strengthening cooperation between researchers, agricultural companies, and producers.
The Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Prof. Dr. Nenad Magazin, also addressed the participants, emphasizing that change is a defining feature of modern agriculture and fruit production, whether driven by climate, market, or geopolitical factors. He noted that many of these changes have negative impacts on agricultural production and that most of them cannot be directly controlled. Therefore, adaptation and innovation represent essential strategies for ensuring the sustainability and competitiveness of fruit production. He also announced the establishment of an Alumni Club for former students of the Fruit Growing and Viticulture study program, aimed at strengthening professional connections and fostering long-term collaboration with the faculty.
The symposium covered a wide range of highly relevant topics, including the impact of high temperatures on apple fruit quality, the role of biostimulants in fruit production, green pruning of blueberry, foliar fertilization in perennial orchards, the application of drones in orchard management, and the use of plant growth regulators such as paclobutrazol and prohexadione-calcium in plum and sour cherry production. These topics reflect the increasing importance of innovative and precision-based approaches in modern horticulture.
Continuous knowledge exchange and the adoption of innovative solutions are essential for improving productivity, quality, and sustainability in fruit production systems.
The event brought together numerous representatives of agricultural companies, technology providers, and fruit growers, highlighting the strong interest of the sector in innovation and knowledge exchange.
