AI for Improving Vegetable Production in the Pannonian Basin│New Blog Post

On June 22, 2026, field monitoring activities were conducted at the Pannonian Basin pilot site, focusing on direct-seeded onion production and potato cultivation for the chip industry. These crops serve as important models for evaluating sustainable production practices under the increasingly challenging climatic conditions of the region.

The monitoring activities were carried out with farmer Slavko Nikolić, whose production fields serve as an important demonstration site for the implementation of innovative crop management practices in the Pannonian Basin.

Artificial intelligence-based technologies integrated into field sensors and connected to a computer systems are being used to continuously monitor environmental conditions. The collected data support more precise irrigation scheduling and nutrient management, enabling more efficient use of water and fertilizers.

Measurements of plant and soil temperatures indicated that optimized irrigation strategies contribute to reducing abiotic stress caused by temperature fluctuations. The integration of artificial intelligence and sensor, based monitoring represents an important step toward more resilient and sustainable vegetable production in the Pannonian Basin.
